The most important step in the development of standards for herbal drug is the authentication of a plant.
Authentication of plant is done by evaluating different parameters like:
- family
- biological source
- chemical constituents and
- the parts of plants collected like leaf, flower and root.
Each and every step has to be authenticated i.e. area of collection, the regional situation as morphological, botanical identity, microscopic and histological analysis.
